Welcome

You awake on the grass. When you open your eyes, you see that you in the Wood. It is calm here. Quiet. There are no birds singing, nor any other sight or sound of animal life. The sky between the branches is an eternal twilight that lightens and darkens without ever becoming true day and night. Interspersed between the trees are the Pools. Each Pool is only a foot deep at most--enough to splash in, but certainly not deep enough to swim or drown. They are oddly uniform, aside from the occasional Pool here and there that has inexplicably dried out.

As you look around, you notice that a short distance away is what appears to be the remains of a small camp. When you approach, you can see that there are a number of tents that seem to be in excellent condition, and in the middle, a campfire circle with plenty of food supplies around it.

The food replenishes itself when taken.

The fresh water never runs dry.

The sleeping bags and mats within the tents are oddly comfortable and restful.

Welcome to the Wood Between the Worlds.

How to explain? Well, George has never been one to beat about the bush.

"Ever read the Chronicles of Narnia?"

He blinks. "Not since I was a kid." Says the teenager. "I'd like to ask what that has to do with anything, but I have a feeling it's going to be relevant to our situation. Some kind of world hopping situation?"

"So like, ten minutes ago?"

That's probably mean. But she can't help it.

"Very specifically world hopping as described in the chronologically first book, The Magician's Nephew."

"Ten?" He shakes his head. "No, at least fifteen." He pauses after she continues, though. Well... It would sure explain the wood and the pools and just about everything else since he turned up here.

"How--" He shakes his head. "Sorry, I think this is my first time turning up in a work of fiction. How does something like this even happen?"

You know, without a weird portal or your team messing around with alternate dimensions or any of the other things he's definitely experienced that would at least signal something like this happening.

"Good fucking question." Georgia scowls at the nearest pool for having the gall to not reveal its answers to her. "I have a simple answer and a less simple answer and unfortunately, both of them are true at different times."
